Steelhead appliances are available in a range of sizes to meet the needs of any remote office - from small sales offices with just a few people, to major design centres and corporate facilities with thousands of employees. Steelhead Mobile software enables workers on the move to enjoy LAN-like access to files and applications whether they are working from home, on the road, or even at customer sites.
Riverbed’s Steelhead appliance & Steelhead Mobile software come with the full power of the Riverbed Optimization System (RiOS):

By deploying Steelhead appliances, enterprises see from 5 to 50 times, and in some cases up to 100 times faster application performance, as well as reduced bandwidth utilization. They can ensure faster applications, successful consolidation of distributed IT infrastructure, and enable faster network-based backup. All Steelhead appliances optimize traffic in both directions, transparent to your applications, and require no reconfiguration to client and server software.
The Steelhead Mobile software client delivers LAN-like application performance to any employee, whether on the road, working from home or connected wirelessly in the office. With Steelhead Mobile, many file downloads that once took mobile or remote workers an hour can be completed in a couple of minutes or seconds. In addition to accelerating application performance, Steelhead Mobile often reduces bandwidth requirements.
A steelhead mobile deployment requires that software be deployed on the user’s laptop or desktop PC and that a Steelhead Mobile Controller (SMC) and Steelhead appliance be deployed in the data centre.
Enterprises can also deploy the optional Central Management Console (CMC) appliance, which allows you to configure and manage many Steelhead appliances simultaneously. The CMC allows group management of devices, dynamic reporting, scheduled operations, over-the-wire software upgrades, and automatic 'touch less' setup of new Steelhead appliances in your network.
Riverbed has been positioned in the Leaders Quadrant of Gartner's Magic Quadrant for WAN Optimization. This is the 5th quarter in a row that Riverbed has maintained the leadership position in the Advanced Platform WOC category.
