West Bromwich Building Society branches out with Network Management
Chevin TeVISTA solution is specifically designed for distributed networks.
West Bromwich Building Society has been a mutual building society for over 150 years and provides value-for-money investment, mortgage and related products to its members. It employs over 800 staff at 47 branches and is the ninth largest building society with assets of around £4 billion. The West Bromwich Building Society has recently announced another year of record results with asset growth in double figures for the 4th year in succession.
Teneo initially contacted The West Brom's Network Controller Jane Steventon late 2002 to find that she was looking for a solution that would provide trend reporting, mapping and alerting information. The management tool would run alongside a roll out of a new desktop system in the branches and a new Siebel CRM application. Jane wanted to be able to monitor and troubleshoot the network in order to optimise utilisation of bandwidth, plan kilostream upgrades and to create management reports. Whilst some products were already under evaluation, they were found to be over detailed in terms of data analysis.
Teneo suggested to Jane that she consider Chevin's next generation network management system TeVista and its unique High Speed Remote MONitoring (HSRmon) protocol, specifically designed for distributed networks. By using Chevin's solution, the Society would be able to undertake a baseline analysis across all branches, from Headquarters. With visibility agents deployed to remote sites, TeVISTA records statistics on WAN activity on an ongoing basis enabling visibility of changes.
Jane picks up the story
"It became clear very quickly that TeVISTA was going to be a valuable tool for us. The Society is about to roll out a high profile and high value CRM application across multiple sites, so visibility of Wide Area traffic became absolutely critical. Teneo was able to provide an overall package, including the provision of product, support and training and this assured us that expert help would be available if required. The immediate benefit to us is that we can deliver the new branch system using available bandwidth to its best effect. We can also plan and manage upgrade, providing additional resources where it is needed and where it will be most effective."
Piers Carey, VP of Sales and Marketing at Teneo continues
"As more organisations roll out multi site business applications, management of bandwidth utilisation becomes crucial. Users rightly have high expectations of these systems and it is important that bandwidth management is recognised as important in meeting success criteria. By installing TeVISTA early in the project lifecycle West Bromwich Building Society has ensured visibility of traffic going across the links and that it can manage the traffic effectively. TeVISTA allows the Society to show performance against predefined thresholds and alarms are raised if these thresholds are breached. By ensuring that links are set up with efficient configurations the Society is laying the groundwork for success in its CRM rollout."
